Latest crime statistics from the CSO

Latest crime statistics show a big drop in the number of murders and other homicides but rises in assaults, burglaries and frauds.

The figures released by the Central Statistics Office show incidence of recorded crime during the 12 months up to the end of June this year.

When compared to the period ending June 2014, there was a 35.5% drop in the number of homicides from 93 to 60.

But there was a big increase in murder threats which were up by 52.6% from 352 to 537.

The number of assaults also rose, by 11.5%, as did the assaults causing harm which were up by 5.2%
