13,500 awarded Irish citizenship in 2015

Citizenship has been awarded to 13,500 people in 2015

3,350 people from more than 120 countries are participating in the final Irish citizenship ceremonies of 2015.

Four ceremonies are being held in the Convention Centre in Dublin.

Citizenship has been awarded to 13,500 people in 2015, down from 20,000 in 2014.

A Department of Justice spokesperson said the drop reflects a fall off in application numbers and a reduction of the backlog of applications.
