A FRAUD rap doctor who bragged of his “humane” shooting of elephants and a lion has been practising in Ireland.
The Irish Sun can reveal that Dr Benjamin Chang was working as cover at two clinics in Leinster for the past four months.
The orthopaedic specialist returned to Ireland, where he had previously trained, after being charged in April with fraud and money laundering offences in London.
It is alleged that he wrote up bogus accident treatment invoices, enabling physiotherapy patients to sting insurance firms.
There is no suggestion that the medical group for which Dr Chang worked until last week was aware of the probe by the City of London Police’s Insurance Fraud Enforcement Department.
When the Irish Sun contacted one of the group’s Irish clinics, a spokeswoman said: “Dr Ben was here but he has now moved on.”
Yesterday, one of the 56-year-old doc’s patients told this paper that she had lodged a complaint over the care he gave — and spoke of her disgust at learning of his big game hunting hobby.
The doctor, who also worked at London’s famous Harley Street Clinic, drew widespread criticism in 2009 when he was snapped sitting on top of the head of an elephant he had just shot in Zimbabwe.
The animal was reported to be one of three elephants he killed after paying £5,600 to take part in the shoot at the Hwange National Park.
