Latvian immigrant charged with impeding murder investigation

A Latvian woman has been charged in connection with the murder of a woman in Kilnaleck, Co Cavan almost three years ago.

The body of 49-year-old Antra Ozolina was found at her home at The Old Post, Main Street, Kilnaleck, on Saturday 28 June 2014.

Egita Jaunmaize, 33, appeared before Virginia District Court in today, charged with acting to impede a garda murder investigation.

Inspector Micheál O’Donoghue told the court that the defendant had been extradited from her home country on a “serious charge”. He said that the State solicitor had directed that she be sent forward for trial to the Central Criminal Court.

Insp O’Donoghue applied to Judge Grainne O’Neill for Ms Jaunmaize to be remanded in custody to appear again at Cavan District Court.

Defence solicitor Rita Martin applied for a Latvian interpreter, which was approved by the judge.

There was no application for bail.

Judge O’Neill then remanded Ms Jaunmaize in custody to Dochas Women’s Prison to appear again at Cavan District Court on 23 March for service of a book of evidence.
